Women’s Artistic 4-Piece Gymnastics
DGC2k has had wonderful success in Women’s Artisitic Gymnastics with both Sofia Ramzan and Emily Bremner representing Scotland at the Commonwealth games.
We run several Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Performance groups, each with their own coach and grouped by age and skill level. Gymnasts expect to compete in Scottish Gymnastics grades in age and consistently get medals in the Scottish Gymnastics Championships and are selected for the Scottish Gymnastics Performance Squads.
Gymnasts joining the club will generally start in one of the Entry level classes and are selected on skill level in relation to age to move into the Performance pathway.
If you are looking to join the Performance pathway directly please email Clare@dgc2k.co.uk
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics comprises of the following 4 disciplines:
- Floor
- Asymmetric Bars (Uneven Bars)
- Beam
- Vault
Floor
Floor exercises are performed on a 12m x 12m floor area. This is done to music and the gymnast should show a variety of skills, flexibility and choreography (dance). The coach and gymnast put a routine together in accordance with the grade they are working towards, but the gymnast should add their own personality.
Bars
Asymmetric bars (uneven Bars) routines comprise of skills performed one after each other or in succession with no pauses. The coach will train the gymnast to effectively flow from one move into the next. A great deal of strength and courage is required, which the coach develops with the gymnast through the national grading system.
Beams
Beam work is performed on a straight beam 101mm or 4″ wide, where the gymnast displays a succession of balance and tumble skills. Courage, determination and balance are required to master the beam, but again through the coaching skills of the coach and the national development plan, the gymnast should progress smoothly through their grades.
Vault
Vault is where the gymnast takes a run up to the vaulting table and with the use of a spring board performs a single tumbling skill over the vault to a landing area. Stamina, co-ordination and discipline are taught through the grades.
