Dundee Gymnastics Club 2K

Gymnastics classes and high-quality competitive training for all ages

Parents Q&A

What should my child wear to classes?

Female gymnasts should wear leggings/shorts and T-shirt/short-sleeved top. Leotards are not required for the recreational classes, but can be worn if you like. Boys should wear shorts and T-shirt.

Bare feet in the gym please.

Long hair must be tied back securely.

There should be no jewellery worn. New ear rings that cannot be removed must be taped to prevent them from catching on clothing, hair or equipment during the gymnastics.

Inappropriate clothing like crop tops and loose fitting tee shirts that can ride up are not suitable due to the gymnast stretching and being upside down some of the time.

Competitions in general

Coaches decide who is ready for competitions and who should be entered. These decisions are not taken lightly as we would like the gymnast to do well to boost their confidence. Based on performance during training, the coaches determine whether the gymnast possesses the necessary building blocks for the skills required to compete at this level, and competition entries are submitted on this basis.

As a competition approaches, the coaches will need to review the position and will occasionally decide that a gymnast’s entry should be withdrawn. Unfortunately, no refund of competition fees can be given. In making their decisions, the coaches will have the best interests of the gymnast, including both physical and mental well being, at heart.

The club pays all the competition fees for the gymnasts. We then charge the parents by direct debit to re-coup the outlay. Once a competition fee has been paid by the club there are no refunds for non attendance.

How do I pay the fees

DGC2k has an online admin system called LoveAdmin. Every member has a DGC2K LoveAdmin account. You can log in to your account at any time – Members Login on the top bar of this web site.

Your DGC2K LoveAdmin account has all your contact details and notes so please keep it up to date. You can change the contact email address or the main contact name and please keep the emergency contact phone numbers up to date.

Direct Debits are set up from your DGC2K LoveAdmin account. From your account, go to Payments on the top blue bar and activate the pre-authorised payments. This allows Direct Debits to be taken. The club enters the amount and date that a payment should be made. The system will email you saying a payment is going to be made.

You can see all your payments and authorise or cancel the Direct Debit from your DGC2K LoveAdmin account at any time.

Coaches qualifications

All DGC2k coaches are UKCC qualified and PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) checked by the governing body Scottish Gymnastics, and they all have to attend child protection (Safeguarding) courses. Our Safeguarding officer Kristine ensures that coaches are up to date with PVG and safeguarding.

  • a Level 1 coach is an assistant coach who works with a more experienced coach.
  • a Level 2 coach can run a class and work with a Level1 assistant.
  • a Level 3 coach can oversee level 1 & Level 2 coaches and can mentor. They can coach up to advanced level.
  • a Level 4 coach is a senior coach who can work with advanced to elite level gymnasts as well as mentoring lower level coaches.
  • a Level 5 coach is a high performance coach who teaches the elite section of the club and is usually the head coach overseeing the other coaches and sessions, and also mentors the other coaches on lesson plans, goal setting etc.

DGC2k at present have 5 level 1 coaches, 13 level 2 coaches, 5 level 3 coaches, 3 level 4 coaches and 1 level 5 coach.

DGC2k promotes coaches’ personal development, with the qualifications including Preschool, General gymnastics, Women’s artistic, Men’s Artistic, and Tumbling.

If my child is injured, or long term ill, or on an extended holiday and can’t attend classes what happens to the fees?

In the event of a gymnast having a long term sports related injury, extended holiday or illness the fees will be reduced to 25% per month, qualifying if the gymnast is going to be off a minimum of 4 weeks until the gymnast returns to training. This is a place holding fee. When a gymnast resumes training it is important that the coaches are guided by a doctor’s or a physiotherapist’s report.

National Competitions & Squad Training costs

For National competitions where accommodation & travel are involved, the club will pay for the coaches accommodation and the coaches time on the competition floor, parents are to cover the travel cost, competition entry fee and any kit the gymnast should require. The travel cost for the coaches will be split between the gymnasts that are competing, unless the coach can travel with a parent in which case there would be no travel cost.

If the gymnast cannot attend for whatever reason the travel cost is still payable as the costs were equally split between gymnasts.

Scottish squad training sessions, NPP, PPP, Development: The club will cover the coaches time at these sessions and accommodation cost, but the gymnast is responsible for their accommodation and coaches travel costs. Coaches travel will be invoiced to gymnasts attending squad training unless other arrangements have been made.

Tips for Gymnast’s Parents for competitions

Expect nothing except that they try their hardest.

Celebrate what they can do – even if others can do more.

Compare their performances to their past performances instead of performances from other competitors. Like this you can highlight their improvements.

Make sure they know that you will not be disappointed or angry if they make a mistake.
Mistakes will happen if either over-thinking or worrying interferes with the performance.

Class Attendance

All classes are paid monthly in advance.

1hr per week – £38 per month – all the recreational classes

2hr per week – £60 per month

4hr per week – £95 per month – Performance Floor and Vault, Boys

6hr per week – £123 per month – Performance Tumble

8 up to 16 hrs per week has a graded fee structure capped at £175 per month those training 16 or more hours per week.

What happens if I’m late picking up my child?

It is the coaches’ responsibility to ensure that all gymnasts under the age of 16 are looked after till they are picked up by a parent / carer.

In the event of a gymnast not being picked up by the end of the last session our policy is to contact you via phone using the emergency phone numbers on the LoveAdmin system. If we cannot contact you, two coaches will stay with the child for 1 hour, after that the coach must call social services or the police to take charge of the child. You will also be charged for the coach’s time.

Scottish Gymnastics & DGC2k membership?

Scottish Gymnastics is the governing body for gymnastics in Scotland and DGC2k is affiliated to Scottish Gymnastics. All the members (gymnasts and officials) of the club must be registered with Scottish Gymnastics. Failure to do so will result in insurance being invalidated in the event of injury or incident. The membership / Insurance runs from 1st September to 31st August of the next year and is not Pro Rata – a set cost for any part of a year.
All registered Gymnasts automatically receive Personal Accident insurance on joining SG.
You need to register and pay for your Scottish Gymnastics directly with Scottish Gymnastics on line.
If you move to another club your membership moves with you and your new club would become your gymnast’s primary club.
There are three categories of gymnast membership,

  • Bronze Gymnast (£25): For gymnasts that take part at beginner or recreational level. It also entitles you to compete in Beginner competitions organised by SGA.
  • Silver Gymnast (£60): For gymnasts who train within a club at a competitive level. It entitles you to compete in any competition arranged within or outside of the Scottish Gymnastics Association.
  • Preschool (£18): A member participating in preschool gymnastics (determined by age, not which class you attend).

DGC2k Annual Membership (£25.00) is to help with some of the costs for administration. This is billed using the LoveAdmin direct debits and runs for 1 year. It is not pro-rata.

Competition Leotards

Our competition Leotards are specially designed for the club and need to be bought by parents. There is an 8 week delivery time for batches of leotards so make sure you get fitted for a leotard and order your competition leotard in good time. Competition Leotards should only be worn at competitions where you are representing DGC2K

Please take great care when washing your leotard. Hand wash with gentle detergent, squeeze out the water and drip dry.

Can a gymnast move from one section to another?

Yes. if a gymnast finds that their section is too difficult or not suiting them they can ask to move to another section of the club; Women’s Artistic, Tumble, or Floor and Vault this would be done in consultation with the Coach, Gymnast and Parent.

The coaches are open to discussion with gymnasts and parents – always ask the coach first as they have long term plans for the gymnast and are best placed to answer your questions.
