Power Tumbling is an acrobatic / rebound sporting discipline which combines some of the skills of artistic gymnastics on the floor with those of trampolining.
It is practised on a 25 metre long spring track. It was developed from tumbling performances performed by entertainers from very early times but as a sport is now codified, regulated, judged and performed using standardised special equipment.
This sport is practised by both men and women. Competitors perform two passes, each containing 8 skills along the track, ending in a 'dismount' skill. Only the feet and hands are allowed to make contact with the track.
Coordination, Control, Strength, Stamina, Courage and Speed are required and Power Tumbling is exciting to watch.
DGC2k follow the national development plan to guide the gymnast from development to British Championships. There are two sections within DGC2k Tumble;
Development is for 7 year olds upwards and the gymnasts learn the skills required to move up to performance. Development tumble is non competitive at this stage. The group is tested on a monthly basis and every 3 months assessed on skills, strength and attitude, looking for progress within the 3 months. Failing an assessment could mean withdrawal from the development class. Development tumble is the feeder class to performance. Development tumble is 2 x 2 hour sessions Monday at the McTaggart Centre and Friday at Brown Street.
Performance from 8 years old with the required skills, this is the competitive class. All gymnasts in this class will compete, there are 3 x 2hour sessions at the McTaggart centre, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and all classes must be attended. Gymnasts will progress through the National Development Plan and compete 5 to 7 times a year. Once the required skills have been mastered the gymnast may be selected for FIG level competitions. Again an assessment is made every 3 months to confirm progress, failing the assessment could mean a return to Development Tumble or Floor & Vault.
